Exascale computation is the next major milestone in the evolution of supercomputers. Exascale computations are faster than that imaginable. “Exa” means 18 zeros. Which means an exascale computer can do more than 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 FLOPS or 1 exaFLOP. That’s many million times faster than the peak performance of ASCI Crimson in 1996.

Building such a highly efficient computer was no easy feat. As scientists begin to take a significant look at exascale computing systems, they predict these computing systems might want to live as much as 50 properties would use.
